Scientists discover a new type of brain cell

Swiss researchers have discovered a new type of brain cell that appears to be a hybrid of neurons and glial cells.

These “glutamatergic astrocytes” have been found to be involved in neurotransmission, suggesting that they play a role in the distribution of brain signals.

“Their discovery opens up immense research prospects.”

This discovery could have important implications for the treatment of brain disorders such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and epilepsy, among others.

Further research is needed to fully understand the functions of these cells in humans, but their potential in the treatment of neurological diseases is promising.
