An Academic Project with Global Impact
Didier Dinamou, graduate of Cameroon’s École Nationale Supérieure Polytechnique de Maroua, developed this system as his outstanding final-year project. This innovative device cools indoor spaces without relying on electricity or polluting gases. Based on adiabatic evaporative cooling principles, it uses terracotta—a natural, affordable material—as its core element.
To understand operation, note it leverages an ancient technique optimized with modern knowledge: adiabatic cooling. Hot air passing through a moist terracotta surface triggers evaporation significantly lowering air temperature. It’s designed as a sustainable, accessible solution for areas like the Sahel, North Africa’s region marked by extreme climate and energy scarcity.

Beyond cooling, the device is fully autonomous thanks to solar panels enabling LED lighting and electronic device charging, extending functionality past cooling.
