A TikTok influencer suffered a serious incident while filming a video with a fragrant flower she found on the street. The case highlights how, despite their beauty, many plants can be toxic for both animals and humans.

A dangerous flower

Through social media, a musical influencer and TikToker decided to record a video with a beautiful flower she found on the street. Without knowing what plant it was, she started playing with it and filming herself.

The incident underlines a basic principle of gardening: even the most beautiful plants can be poisonous. Although the flower smelled pleasant, it turned out to be extremely toxic.

The influencer shared her experience: “I hope you inhale my EP as deeply as we inhaled the delicious smell of this flower (Warning: after these photos were taken, we both felt really sick and had to go home; I had my first sleep paralysis episode and very strange nightmares, it was terrifying).”

She also recounted that, after feeling unwell, they tried to go to a friend’s birthday party, but the discomfort was so intense that they had to leave. When they got home, the influencer fell asleep, as she later told on Instagram.

Dangerous plants in urban environments

When she woke up the next day, she found out she had been poisoned by inhaling the flower’s scent, which turned out to be angel’s trumpet (Brugmansia), also known as “trompeta de ángel.” The plant is highly toxic and can cause hallucinations and trance-like states.

The influencer warned:
“The next day we were told it was an ‘angel’s trumpet’. It’s very poisonous and causes hallucinations and zombie trances. So better inhale my music, not some random flower you find in the street.”

This incident highlights the importance of being aware of the plants around us, since many can be toxic even in urban settings. Some common highly poisonous plants include oleander and angel’s trumpet.

Naturally, the TikToker deleted the video from her social media.

Despite how dangerous they are, these plants are often used in public spaces because they look attractive and require little maintenance. It is essential to be informed about the plants around us to avoid potentially dangerous situations.
