Although there are <strong>different types<\/strong> and in some cases other <a href=\"https:\/\/cerebrodigital.net\/en\/universal-kidney-ending-waitlists-transplant\/\">organs<\/a> may be affected, all patients share one reality: the absence of a functional <strong>uterus<\/strong>, which makes <strong>pregnancy impossible<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thanks to a <strong>uterus transplant<\/strong> from a deceased donor, <strong>Grace <\/strong>was able to carry her son. The implantation surgery, performed once the <strong>uterus<\/strong> was prepared, lasted nearly <strong>seven hours<\/strong>. She later underwent a process of <strong>in vitro fertilization (IVF)<\/strong> and embryo transfer. The pregnancy was closely monitored by the medical team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hugo <\/strong>was delivered by cesarean section in December, becoming the first <strong>baby <\/strong>in the <strong>United Kingdom<\/strong> born after this type of <strong>transplant <\/strong>and, likely, only the third in <strong>Europe<\/strong>. However, <strong>Hugo\u2019s <\/strong>case is different, as the <strong>uterus<\/strong> came from a deceased donor as part of a research program funded by the charity <strong>Womb Transplant UK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This program includes a total of ten <strong>transplants <\/strong>from deceased donors.
