Developed by researchers at the University of Tokyo<\/strong>, this vaccine against Nipah<\/strong> uses a recombinant platform that inserts part of the genetic material of the Nipah<\/strong> virus <\/strong>into a modified measles virus, a method similar to that used in other successful vaccines<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main goal of this early trial, called Phase 1<\/strong>, is to evaluate the safety and the vaccine\u2019s <\/strong>ability to trigger an immune response in the human body. Approximately 60 healthy adult volunteers will be recruited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The infection\u2019s mortality <\/strong>rate is high \u2014 observed between 40% and 75% in previous outbreaks \u2014 and can vary depending on how quickly the disease is detected, access to medical care, and epidemiological control<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outbreaks have mostly occurred in South <\/strong>and Southeast Asia<\/strong>, with recurrent cases in countries such as Bangladesh <\/strong>and India<\/strong>, highlighting the urgent need for preventive tools like vaccines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How the vaccine works and what comes next<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Nipah<\/strong> vaccine <\/strong>candidate developed in Japan <\/strong>uses a known viral vector: a modified measles virus <\/strong>that does not cause disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
