They <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gpkmedia.com\/news\/national\/astronomers-found-the-universe-s-first-stars\/article_f9c06fec-741d-5636-bf5d-a9b87ed2ae96.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">date almost <\/a>to the dawn of time &#8211; around 13.7 billion years ago. Studying their remains will shed fresh light on the early cosmos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cerebrodigital.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/estrellas_en_el_universo_jhgvc-bicubic-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"-\" class=\"wp-image-536512\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cerebrodigital.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/estrellas_en_el_universo_jhgvc-bicubic-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cerebrodigital.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/estrellas_en_el_universo_jhgvc-bicubic-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cerebrodigital.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/estrellas_en_el_universo_jhgvc-bicubic-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cerebrodigital.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/estrellas_en_el_universo_jhgvc-bicubic-696x392.jpg 696w, https:\/\/cerebrodigital.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/estrellas_en_el_universo_jhgvc-bicubic-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https:\/\/cerebrodigital.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/estrellas_en_el_universo_jhgvc-bicubic-747x420.jpg 747w, https:\/\/cerebrodigital.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/estrellas_en_el_universo_jhgvc-bicubic-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cerebrodigital.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/estrellas_en_el_universo_jhgvc-bicubic.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>An Italian team identified the ashes using the Very Large Telescope in Chile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They used light from quasars &#8211; incredibly bright objects at the centers of distant galaxies \u2013 to detect their existence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lead author Professor Stefania Salvadori, of Florence University in Italy, said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;Our discovery opens new avenues to indirectly study the nature of the first stars.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Quasars are black holes with energetic jets beaming out from two sides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the light propagates it passes through clouds of gas that absorb certain wavelengths depending on what elements they contain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The researchers used this absorption to pick out three distant gas clouds nearly 25 billion light years away with strange chemical signatures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They observed them as they appeared over 11 billion years ago &#8211; around two billion years after their birth, reports New Scientist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gas clouds are often left behind after a star explodes in a supernova &#8211; blasting away its contents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But astronomers expect some of the first stars wouldn&#8217;t have exploded completely &#8211; leaving their cores and the heavier elements inside intact.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The universe&#8217;s first known stars have been identified by astronomers.
