The information can be found in an article published in the <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1016\/j.solmat.2023.112185\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">scientific journal Solar Energy Materials and Solar Cells<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The team of scientists, led by <strong>He Bin<\/strong> of the Academy of Sciences of Canton Province, has developed a low-cost, easy-to-scale and highly efficient membrane that exhibits remarkable oil resistance, state-run Xinhua news agency reports.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cerebrodigital.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-50-1024x760.png\" alt=\"-\" class=\"wp-image-525254\" width=\"415\" height=\"308\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cerebrodigital.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-50-1024x760.png 1024w, https:\/\/cerebrodigital.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-50-300x223.png 300w, https:\/\/cerebrodigital.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-50-768x570.png 768w, https:\/\/cerebrodigital.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-50-150x111.png 150w, https:\/\/cerebrodigital.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/image-50.png 1193w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 415px) 100vw, 415px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The technology is based on steam generation using solar energy through photothermal conversion. During this process, the membrane separates the water vapor from the water source, either seawater or wastewater.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This approach is considered a<em>&#8220;sustainable and highly efficient<\/em>&#8221; solution to address long-term water shortages worldwide, according to <strong>Xinhua<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the study, the researchers improved the hydrophilic capacity of the membrane, which is composed of a material called polydopamine, by adding diiron trioxide and KH-550, an amino-functional coupling agent that improves adhesion between inorganic substrates and organic polymers.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The membrane and its hydrophilic properties allow the process to generate steam with solar energy with an efficiency of 90.33%. In addition, the scientists highlighted that the evaporation rate also showed excellent performance: &#8220;The evaporation rate remains high, even in oil-contaminated water, thanks to the improved hydrophilicity and antifouling capacity of the modified membrane&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In summary, this research offers a new perspective in the search for sustainable and efficient solutions to combat global water scarcity through desalination and purification of different types of water.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sources:<a
